- Q. What are the ongoing Royalty Fees associated with owning an

- A. The Royalty Fee for any type of Amazon Cafe is 5% of gross sales, paid monthly, exclusive of sales tax.
- Q. What about advertising?
- A. Building the "brand equity" of the Amazon Cafe name and unique concept is an essential ongoing objective that benefits all of us. To help achieve this objective, each franchisee is required to spend 2% of gross sales towards ongoing marketing efforts in their local market (though local newspaper advertising, money mailers, sponsorships, etc. as the franchisee sees fit). An additional 2% will be paid to the Amazon Systems Cooperative Advertising Fund. The Co-Op Fund has two primary objectives - to stimulate national brand recognition and to increase individual store sales through special promotions, new product introductions and creative campaigns. The Co-Op funds are also necessary to finance quarterly marketing kits sent to each franchise, which include point-of-purchase marketing materials, promotional items, and more. As the number of Amazon Cafes continues to grow, the Co-Op Fund will be spent more on national advertising in mainstream media such as Television & Radio.
- Q. May I find my own location?
- A. It is the responsibility of the franchisee to locate a prime location. We do, however, stand ready to assist you in this effort by making available our highly skilled and experienced Real Estate Department representatives, along with an extensive network of brokers and currently available sites. We also provide direction and training on site analysis, including obtaining demographic information, traffic information, and visibility criteria. Amazon Systems must give final approval for all locations.
- Q. Do I receive training from Amazon Systems?
- A. Yes. Amazon Systems provides extensive pre-opening and opening training to run your business effectively. This training includes three phases:

- "Hands-On" Training at your Amazon Cafe during both pre-opening and opening time periods.

- Q. Do I receive assistance in opening my business?
- A. Yes! In addition to the training outlines above, Amazon Cafe provides opening personnel to assist in the initial set up, training of personnel, and opening operations. Number of operating personal and duration of stay is based on need determined by the operations department. Assistance and timing are established thought the corporation based on receipt of "Certificate of Occupancy" (COP) and completion of our "Pre Opening Checklist." It is the responsibility of the franchisee to prepare the unit for the pre-opening training. Opening date changes may occur based on readiness of the Cafe for required crew training.
- Q. What forms of continuing guidance will I received?
- A. First of all, you will receive an Amazon Cafe Operations Manual covering many important facets of your business operation. As the manuals are updated, revisions will be made available to you. You will received a complete listing of approved suppliers and sourced for all required item and these, too, will be updated as we continuously expand our relationships with suppliers and service providers. You will receive periodic bulletins and communication containing useful management tips and information. You will also receive periodic visits by a representative who may consult with you and offer useful advice and counsel on information, advertising, promotions, training, communication, and any other business information you may require. Our objectives include continually supporting you in your effort to maximize your Cafe profitability. Consultation will additionally include methods to assist you in achieving this objective.
- Q. Do I receive guidance on the purchase of inventory and
supplies?
- A. Yes. Our Operations Department evaluates suppliers based on their ability to provide products that are equal-to or exceed our specifications and high quality standards at the lowest competitive prices. We then recommend these sources for your use. An approved product list is made part of the Amazon Cafe Operations Manual.
- Q. What supplies must be purchased as an Amazon Cafe Franchisee?
- A. All private label and proprietary items and food products from the approved list must be used to ensure consistency from Cafe to Cafe.
- Q. Does Amazon Cafe have inventory control forms and business
aids I can use?
- A. Yes. We have designed a complete variety of forms for inventory control. Daily and weekly sales, profit and loss control, and other business aids vital to the correct and efficient operation of your cafe will be provided. You will also receive ads, flyers, and other marketing materials that have been professionally prepared to promote business in your local market. Additionally, Amazon Cafes will now utilize electronic Point of Sale (POS) Systems. The POS Systems will allow you to track inventory, monitor food & labor costs, manage employees as well as logging sales per hour.
- Q. Who decides what prices I will charge for my menu items?
- A. You do; however we will provide you a detailed listing that will give you pricing suggestions based upon our experience and local and regional competition comparisons.
- Q. Can I "sell" my Amazon Cafe franchise?
- A. Yes. Like any other business, your franchise license and business may be sold to a buyer approved by the company. However, the company has the first right of refusal. There is a transfer fee for administrative, legal, and training expenses covered in the Uniform Franchise Offering Circular (UFOC) and Franchise Agreement.
- Q. What is the term of the Franchise Agreement?
- A. The basic term of the agreement is ten years. There are renewal options available at additional costs as outlined in the UFOC.
- Q. How long will it take to open my first Amazon Cafe?
